In 2009, Mia followed up GEA with Morning Music, an instrumental album, gentle and contemplative, free of lyrics or voice. Mia recorded and mixed the tracks at her own Château des Chats studio in Frogtown LA, using harmonium, piano, tin whistle, tambourine, acoustic guitar, and drums. On the tracks “Samai’i” and “Emotion,” she is joined by Andres Renteria on cajon, piano, wooden stool, and udu. The simple songs do not aim at virtuosity, but rather a gentle unravelling through time and sound. Birds and traffic, heard softly in the distance, comfort rather than distract the listener, like thoughts arising and falling in meditation. The small dramas of the piano and tin whistle resolve themselves peacefully. The album is very complimentary to a thoughtful morning coffee. Listeners have found the album to be useful, unassuming music to accompany creative work.
